DEX to Present Unique Test and Repair Solutions for Wind Turbine Electronics at Husum Wind Energy Trade Fair

Camarillo, CA - August 23, 2010 - DEX®, a leading supply chain solutions provider for high-tech industries, announced today that it will be presenting its innovative wind energy Electronics Test and best-in-class repair solutions at the Husum WindEnergy Trade Fair from September 21 to 25, 2010.

DEX’s unique value engineering solutions coupled with world class repair services form the backbone of its new Repair Versus Replace solution. These new services emphasize repairing defective turbine components over purchasing replacements. DEX's skilled electrical and mechanical engineers use repeatable, reliable test processes to develop and document repairs for a continually expanding variety of wind turbines.

The goal of the new Repair Versus Replace solution is to provide customers with quick, efficient and competitively priced repairs for electronic and electro-mechanical turbines. Additionally, DEX's solutions include quick turnaround times, averaging seven to ten days, and increased Mean Time Between Failure through proprietary upgrades and product enhancements.

“The cost savings realised from DEX's Repair Versus Replace program are significant,” said Duncan Kellet, external operations supervisor of Scottish Power Renewables, DEX’s biggest wind power client. “The cost of repair is approximately one-third of buying new units. Now we have a contingency stock of repaired VRCC units at each wind farm so they can be instantly swapped out if there are any failures. This makes us less reliant on the OEM to have parts transported to site, which could cause potential disruption to our operations. A 2-3 day delay can be very costly in terms of downtime.”

Kellet concluded, “We have found the response times from DEX to be very good. The quicker we can have the rotor control units repaired and back out in the field, the less downtime we experience. The quality of the repairs has been excellent. DEX has a long pedigree in the medical equipment and IT sectors and it applies the same rigorous quality control standards to its wind turbine repair services.”

Since the introduction of its wind energy  solutions, DEX has expanded operations globally opening engineering and repair facilities in Europe and North America. To ensure the highest quality standards and reliable repair services for DEX customers, all DEX locations maintain rigorous ISO standards, including ISO 14001, and adhere to RoHS and WEEE standards.

"With a large portion of approximately 150,000 MW installed base of wind turbines coming out of warranty, we see a growing need for a comprehensive repair or replacement strategy for defective wind turbine components," says Sean Keller, DEX Renewables Business Unit Director. "Additionally, having the proper asset management strategy and an inventory management system in place can help to achieve these goals. Our goal at DEX is to deliver a value add solution that will ensure that our customers are able to maintain the output of their operation at its highest capacity, cut costs and maximize revenue and profits."

DEX will have further information on its Repair Versus Replace solutions at its Husum WindEnergy booth #1G16 in Hall 1, on September 21 through 25, 2010.
