DEX Launchs Wind Turbine Repair Service for North America

Camarillo, CA - September 2, 2009 - DEX®, a leader in supply chain logistics, today announced it is launching comprehensive repair and logistics services for North America’s burgeoning wind turbine sector.

DEX Renewables North America is a new division of DEX.  DEX has a 30-year track record of delivering optimal solutions for the Technology Supply Chain including logistics, repair, parts procurement and asset recovery services.  DEX operates in a number of high technolgy sectors including computer, industrial, medical and security equipment.  The company counts dozens of Fortune 500 companies among its clients and has global reach through a network of facilities throughout the US, Europe and Asia.

The new division will offer a fully integrated repair solution to wind farm operators and power utility companies including:

  • A full repair service for wind turbine electro-mechanical sub-systems such as rotor current controllers and electronic control systems.
  • Repair and refurbishment of out-of-warranty and undocumented parts.  This is often more economical than buying a new part.
  • Procurement service to source older and discontinued parts. DEX has access to a global network of over 4,000 trusted suppliers to find the required part at the most competitive cost.
  • Full testing and turbine simulation facilities in-house at DEX means that repaired and refurbished parts are thoroughly tested before they are put back into active service.
  • Industry-leading warranties on all parts supplied by DEX.  Warranty only commences when the part is called from the controlled stock, thereby significantly extending the overall warranty period.
  • DEX can help operators manage their inventory of parts more effectively by offering a tracking, secure storage and logistics service including an optional web-based portal which can provide 24/7 visibility on the age, condition and location of parts across the customer’s entire estate.

“Wind farm operators and utility companies need to ensure 100% uptime of their equipment to operate profitably.   One of the main barriers to this is electro-mechanical failure of components.  If the turbine cannot be repaired quickly and efficiently it can be very costly in terms of lost production and penalties,” said Paul Gettings of DEX Renewables, North America.

“The situation is made more difficult when out-of-warranty, older and discontinued parts are harder to source and repairs are more complex due to the lack of technical documentation.  DEX has developed a range of engineering skills, knowledge and contacts which can overcome these obstacles. These solutions allow operators to outsource their repair function knowing that parts will be repaired, refurbished or replaced with the minimum disruption to their business."
