DEX Launches Renewables Division at Wind Hannover Messe (April 20-24, 2009), Hall 27 – Stand J42

Camarillo, CA - April 16, 2009 - DEX®, a leader in supply chain logistics, today announced it is launching a new division, DEX Renewables, at Wind, the leading wind energy conference and exhibition being held at Messe Hannover.  The division is dedicated to providing world-beating repair, parts and logistics support to the wind turbine sector in Europe and North America.

DEX is an international specialist engineering company with a 30 year pedigree providing optimal solutions for the Technology Supply Chain including logistics, repair, parts procurement and asset recovery services. DEX operates in high-tech industries including computer, industrial and medical equipment.  The company  has a global presence with a number of facilities in the US, Europe and Asia.  It counts dozens of Fortune 500 companies among its clients.

The new division applies this world-leading expertise to the European renewable energy sector, initially focusing on wind turbine solutions.

“Wind farm operators and utility companies in Europe need to ensure they achieve maximum uptime  Equipment failures, poor quality repairs and unavailability of spare parts can be very costly.  DEX offers a full consultancy service to analyse problems and investigate wind turbine performance and reliability issues,” said Sean Keller, business unit director, DEX Renewables.

“We are offering an integrated solution.  When equipment is out of warranty we can offer a full repair service for wind turbine electro-mechanical sub-systems such as rotor current controllers and electronic control systems.  We can also source parts even for older wind turbines.  Moreover, we can help our customers identify equipment which could be refurbished and track and control assets through our web portal system.  We frequently find that valuable parts have dropped off the asset register and spares are kept in poor storage environments.  We can refurbish and test these parts and if required hold them centrally in our warehouse until they are required by the client and therefore helping clients realise the significant value of these assets.”

The key benefits of using DEX Renewables services include:

  • Greater visibility of parts inventory – spares often held in local stores or warehouses with little or no visibility centrally.  Limited information on the condition and age of the parts.
  • Provision for safe and robust storage of parts.
  • Shorter lead times – the longer the wait on repair or spares the more costly it is for the operator.
  • Defective out of warranty parts are often uncontrolled and undocumented  DEX has the engineering expertise to repair and maintain such parts.
  • DEX operates a comprehensive swap out service including the following steps:
    • Defective parts returned immediately and stored centrally at DEX
    • Defectives repaired by DEX based on demand
    • Repaired parts stored for call off or shipment as required
    • Optional DEX web portal means that the client has instant visibility of stock levels/location/condition on a 24/7 basis
  • Warranty on DEX parts only commences when the part is requested from DEX controlled stock, significantly extending the warranty period
  • DEX has comprehensive in-house testing and turbine simulation facilities to thoroughly test repaired and refurbished parts before they go back into active service.  All parts repaired by DEX carry a comprehensive warranty.
  • Access to 4,000 qualified vendors for end of life and hard to find spares.
  • DEX has the highest quality and health and safety accreditations including:
    • ISO 9001-2000 and ISO 13485-2003
    • ISO 14001
    • Independent safety committee to oversee safety policy and practices
    • Implemented BWEA best practice safety WTSR model training
    • Engineers have undergone working at height training
    • Dedicated risk assessment management system
Internal audit system and controlled training plans held on Oracle database
